Saab to support Sweden gunnery training

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, March 3 (UPI) -- The Swedish Defense Materiel Administration announced it has contracted Saab for virtual training technologies for use by the Swedish armed forces.

Saab Training Systems, partnering with Krauss Maffei Wegman, received the more than $16 million contract for the companies to supply the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration with 10 RB57 gunnery training systems. The deal also includes training and support from Saab.

"We are proud that together with Krauss Maffei Wegman we can offer cost effective training to the armed forces," Johan Ohlson, Saab Training Systems president, said in a statement. "Through this collaboration we reinforce our ability to offer new training capability to our customers."

Officials say the RB57 gunnery training system is integrated with Saab Training System's ATW system NLAW technologies and Krauss Maffei Wegman's virtual simulator. The system, which will also be used for mobile training during missions, is capable of training as many as 800 users in the Swedish armed forces every year on gunnery systems.
