CHICAGO, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- In an initiative to expand the company footprint in the defense market, Chicago-based Accenture announced the acquisition of Maxim Systems Inc.

Accenture, a government defense and classified markets solutions provider, announced the completed acquisition of the employee-owned defense consulting firm in an effort to expand Accenture's defense practice.

San Diego-based Maxim Systems provides engineering and technical services for multilevel security and satellite communications including command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance for U.S. Defense Department agencies. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

"C4ISR is a key strategic growth area for Accenture," Eric Stange, Accenture's U.S. defense practice managing director, said in a statement. "Our aim is to provide new levels of service and leading-edge practices that will enable the Department of Defense to equip our military with real-time resources and adapt proven commercial technologies to the battlefield."

"The transition of Maxim Systems' 135 employees to Accenture complements the company's aggressive growth in the defense practice area. Coupled with Accenture's recent acquisition of the George Group Consulting LLC and its recently announced plan to acquire Gestalt, LLC, Accenture and its subsidiary Accenture National Security Services LLC offer defense clients a robust and comprehensive suite of capabilities," the release said.
