Less trash for Argentina tourists

WASHINGTON, June 7 (UPI) -- Tourist spots in Argentina should get cleaner soon.

The Inter-American Development Bank agreed Thursday to provide a $60 million loan to help Argentina improve its solid waste management in municipalities that attract tourism in the country.

Tourism is a major source of income for about 650 municipalities, and by improving solid waste management, living standards for residents in those areas should be improved, while tourists should have a better visiting experience, especially in the northwest and northeast regions where poverty levels are high, the IDB said.

The IDB loan will also be used in part to train workers in occupational health and safety as well as maintenance work.
