Islamic summit in Mecca on December 7

MECCA, Saudi Arabia, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- The Extraordinary Islamic Summit will meet to discuss the Muslim world's difficulties in Mecca on December 7.

Arab News reports that the two-day meetimg was being held under the auspices of the Organization of the Islamic Conference and would give King Abdullah first opportunity since ascending the throne in August to address the leaders of the 57 Muslim countries.

The Extraordinary Islamic Summit comes in the wake of a September meeting in Mecca where leading Muslim scholars and intellectuals crafted a new vision for the Organization of the Islamic Conference. Attendees also set the agenda for the December summit.

The Organization of the Islamic Conference, founded in 1969, is based in Jeddah and is the world's largest Islamic organization. It works to increase political, economic and social cooperation among members.
