China sentences ex-mayor to death

BEIJING, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- A Chinese court has given a suspended death sentence to a former vice-mayor who took bribes of 4.5 trillion yuan ($544,500), the official Xinhua news agency said Friday. The Intermediate People's Court of Xiamen found Zhao Keming guilty of abusing his power as vice-mayor of Xiamen city in the eastern province of Fujian, Xinhua said.
