Berlin prepares to welcome, protect Bush

BERLIN, May 20 (UPI) -- A half-block east of the Brandenburg Gate, in what was once communist East Berlin, couples sipped beer Monday at a sidewalk café outside the hotel chosen to host U.S. President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush when they visit the German capital this week. Meanwhile, beyond the view of Hotel Adlon guests, steel barricades waited in stacks for workers who will use them to cordon off an entire city section during the two-day Bush visit.
