DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Fourteen prisoners were killed and 15 others wounded Tuesday when fire broke out at a police station in Dubai, according to UAE police officials.
The police department released a statement saying the dead prisoners included seven from the United Arab Emirates, two Iranians, two Afghans and three Bedouins.

Official blamed a group of prisoners held on drug charges for starting the fire. They said the inmates were trying to incite a riot with the fire.
The 14 prisoners died of smoke inhalation. The 15 wounded inmates were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The chief of police and a handful of officers were injured by rioting prisoners as they evacuated the prison.
