Volvo recalls 59,000 vehicles for software glitch

GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Swedish car company Volvo is recalling more than 59,000 vehicles due to a software glitch in some models.

The recall will affect 4x4 and five-cylinder diesel vehicles in the company's 60 and 70 series built from mid-2015 including S60, V60, XC60, V70 and XC70.

Volkswagen spokesman Stefan Elfstrom said the "unpleasant" glitch can cause the vehicle's engine and electric system to shut down and start up again.

He also said no accidents have been reported due to the glitch and that it is "barely noticeable" in most cases as the systems quickly restart.

The "root cause" of the problem has been identified and affected owners in nearly 40 countries will be notified by mail, Volvo said.

Customers can then have the fault fixed for free at their local Volvo dealership.
