The new feature could be a new way to find a date on Facebook, but could also lead to pesky inquiries from marketers who are looking for certain demographics.

MENLO PARK, Calif., May 19 (UPI) -- Facebook has introduced a new Ask button that will appear on the profiles of users who haven't specified their Relationship Status.

By clicking on the Ask button, users can send a message to the person asking them their relationship status or perhaps if they want to grab a drink. On sending a message the recipient will receive a request to select a status that only the sender can see.

While the new feature may seem a little pesky, it can be accessed only by users who are friends and not strangers. The Ask button will not be visible to the person who's page it is but only to his or her friends.

The new feature could be a new way to find a date on Facebook, which is trying to bank on the continuing success of dating sites and apps.
