RESTON, Va., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Apple Inc.'s iPhone and iPad generated nearly 60 percent of U.S. mobile device Web traffic in August, a market research group said.

ComScore, which tracks Internet behavior, said iOS devices -- the operating system for Apple products -- generated 58.5 percent of the Web traffic originating from mobile machinery, Mashable Tech reported Tuesday.

Currently, the iPad is the origin of more traffic than the iPhone, ComScore said. Among iOS devices, 46.8 percent originates from iPads, while 42.6 percent originates from iPhones.

Looking closer at the iPad owner: 54.7 percent were male, almost 33 percent were 25-34 years of age and nearly 50 percent live in households making more than $100,000 per year.

In a word: Yuppies.

And what are those Yuppies doing with their iPads?

More than half have gone digital window shopping and more than half read reviews. Almost half purchased items over the Internet, vis a vis their iPads, in August.

A majority of tablet owners -- 60 percent -- use the device for social networking and 25 percent use the mobile computers to catch up on the news on an almost daily basis, ComScore said.
