BERLIN, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Germany is selling Israel two new Dolphin class submarines for a total of $1.17 billion, Deutsche Welle reported Monday.
The submarines, to be built in the Baltic Sea town of Kiel, will be outfitted with fuel cell engines so they can remain submerged for weeks at a time.
The sale was agreed upon by outgoing German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, a member of the pacifist Green Party.
