Bob Futz: November 27th: It was a Monday morning San Franciscans will not soon forget. Shortly before he was to hold a news conference, Mayor George Moscone was shot to death in his office; moments later, Supervisor Harvey Milk, a leader of San Francisco’s homosexual community, was shot and killed down the hall. A former member of the Board of Supervisors, Dan White, surrendered to police and was charged with murder. He had been angered, because Moscone had refused to reappoint him after he quit his job, then decided he wanted it back.
A shaken Acting Mayor Dianne Feinstein announced the tragedy …

Bob Futz: Thousands turned out at memorial services; they marched through the streets with candles, lined up to view the caskets in City Hall, filled churches to overflowing as San Francisco with more than its share of tragedy mourned its slain leaders.
