Vijay Iyer is a New York based jazz pianist and composer. In 2003, he collaborated with Mike Ladd, hip-hop MC and producer, and recorded "In What Language?", a song cycle about the post-9/11 world.

Iyer recently contributed a chapter to Sound Unbound: Sampling Digital Music and Culture (The MIT Press, 2008) edited by Paul D. Miller a.k.a. DJ Spooky. In 2008 his work (with Mike Ladd) Redemption Chant 2.0 was included on the compilation album Crosstalk: American Speech Music (Bridge Records) produced by Mendi + Keith Obadike.

Iyer also joined the 9th annual Independent Music Awards judging panel to assist independent musicians' careers.
