SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Czech snowboarder Sarka Pancochova took a nasty fall Sunday and hit her head so hard her helmet split open during her Olympics performance.

The 23-year-old was in the middle of the snowboarding slopestyle finals when she missed a landing, ended up on her back and tumbled to the bottom of the descent.

She laid on her back for several moments before medics attended to her and she was able to finish her run. She appeared a little disoriented at the bottom of the slope and seemed shocked when Britain Jennie Jones showed her her broken helmet.

Pancochova was in first place after her first run, but ended up in fifth with a score of 86.25.

U.S. snowboarder Jamie Anderson won the gold in the event with a score of 95.25.
