Thai government to arrest 19 protest leaders

Protests led by the opposition Democratic Party began when people demanded the ousting of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who stands accused of acting as a mouthpiece for her brother Thaksin Shinawatra.

BANGKOK, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- The government of Thailand announced 19 leaders of the anti-government protests will be arrested for violating the state of emergency.

Thai Labour Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said no violence will be committed against the leaders as they are arrested by 12 task forces with warrants from the Thailand criminal court. The leaders are members of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) who have been leading the protests that escalated into violence during the Thai elections.

Yoobamrung also said they are seeking 39 other PDRC leaders to arrest for violating the state of emergency.
