Reporter's 'dangerous face water' tweet from Sochi hotel makes her a viral sensation

SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- When Chicago Tribune reporter Stacy St. Clair arrived at her hotel to cover the Winter Olympics, she was informed that using the water, if it even worked, would be dangerous.

St. Clair tweeted about what she had been told and instantly shed light on one of the most talked about #SochiProblems to date.

In a later piece for the Tribune, St. Clair went into a little more detail about what exactly happened.

“When the water eventually came back on at my hotel -- my temporary housing for a night until my scheduled room could be finished -- the water that poured through the faucet was dark yellow. It was the color of apple juice or a performance enhancing drug test specimen. The shower left what looked like fish food flakes coating the tub.”

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach apologized to reporters about the condition of some of the hotel rooms but did say that only three percent of rooms had issues. "I have some travel experience and I know how embarrassing it is when you arrive after a long flight to a place and your room is not ready," he said.

For St. Clair, no apology was required.

“I'm not sure why Bach thinks I should be embarrassed by my hotel's bathroom faucet spitting urine-colored water. First of all, I ended up washing my face with bottled Evian water, which made me feel like a Kardashian,” she wrote.

“And, second, it's made me extremely popular among my fellow journalists here in southwestern Russia. I've received tweets in Russian, German, Danish and languages I have not yet determined.”
