PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Dogs at the Penn Vet Working Dog Center in Philadelphia are being trained to sniff out ovarian cancer tissue as part of a new diagnostic test. McBane, a springer spaniel, is one such dog being trained in these tests and can recognize the cancer odor. Dr. Cynthia Otto of the center says, "The great thing about dogs is not only are they more sensitive, but they can filter things out."
Researchers are trying to isolate the specific odor for blood and urine tests so they can detect the cancer in its earliest stages.
