NEW YORK, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- It's about to rain sharks all over again.

Syfy's incredibly silly shark disaster movie proved so popular -- though social media hype didn't exactly translate into ratings -- that the network has started to confirm details for the sequel.

The network confirmed on Thursday that Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will resume their roles as Fin and April for Sharknado 2: The Second One, which starts filming on location in New York City next month.

According to the Daily News, "tense negotiations" led to contracts for both Ziering and Reid, though TMZ reported last year that Reid would not be returning. Ziering has said that he signed on to the original film to pay for his family's health insurance.

"Sharknado was an extraordinary ‘perfect storm' which captured the attention of movie fans across the globe," Syfy exec Thomas Vitale said in a statement. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing about Sharknado! By reassembling the creative team–and dropping sharks onto New York's iconic sites–we're unleashing yet another ‘fin' wave of shark-mania."
