A student at a Houston-area high school was charged after bringing a "zip gun" to school Monday, prompting an evacuation.

Katy ISD Police evacuated Seven Lakes High School after they learned of an unspecified threat on campus. As students were led to the football and baseball fields, the FBI, Harris County Sheriff's officers and the Houston Police Department bomb squad swept the school.

The zip gun -- a device altered to propel objects such as nails -- was found around 11 a.m. and another weapon was found in the trunk of student Thomas Scott Barfield's car.

Barfield, 19, was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

"He was kinda a pyrotechnic," said Josh Rubin, a senior. "He liked to make things with fire and all that. He is honestly a nice person if you just talk to him, but he would be a person I would expect would do something like this.”

School was expected to resume on a normal schedule Tuesday.
