Jan. 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Geological Survey reported Monday that a strong 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit the northern coast of Puerto Rico in the early hours of the morning, one day after the four-year anniversary of the devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck nearby Haiti.
The epicenter of the quake hit about 60 miles northwest of the capital San Juan, north of Hatillo.

The quake didn't prompt any tsunami warnings, but it did cause minor damage to floors and windows and some power outages.
"The damages have been minor," Carlos Acevedo, a spokes person for the U.S. territory's emergency management agency, told The Weather Channel. "No one has required our services."
