Candace Cameron opened up about her struggles with bulimia while discussing her new book Balancing It All with Yahoo's Omg! Insider.

The 37-year-old actress, who rose to fame at the age of 10 for playing D.J. Tanner on Full House, explained that she never dealt with eating disorders during her time as a child actor. Instead, her issues began when she married Valeri Bure and moved to Montreal for his career as a professional hockey player.

At the time Cameron was struggling to find balance as an actress and a new wife, and she "turned to food for comfort."

"Clearly it wasn't a healthy way to deal with things," she said. "That's really when my faith was kicked up a notch, and I sought comfort in my relationship with God and not with food."

Cameron says her parents and the Full House production crew went to great lengths to make her feel good about herself during her time on the ABC hit show.

"I think I was very protected by my parents and the producers. They all had a sensitivity about it," she explained. "Even the one episode of Full House where D.J. goes on a crash diet for a few days … they asked me would I feel comfortable doing an episode about that."
