Taye Diggs, Idina Menzel split after 10 years of marriage

Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel, who met on the set of the original Broadway production of Rent back in 1996, have separated after 10 years of marriage.

"Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have jointly decided to separate at this time," their rep said in a statement. "Their primary focus and concern is for their son. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time."

Diggs and Menzel, both 42, have one child together, 4-year-old son Walker Nathaniel Diggs.

E! News noted that Menzel did not appear at the most recent premiere of Diggs' latest film project, The Best Man Holiday.

“I’m not going to glamorize it or glorify it," Menzel, who won a 2004 Tony Award for Wicked, told People back in April. "We go through tough times like everybody else, but we love each other very much. We try not to be away from each other for more than two weeks at a time and we try to find new ways to communicate.”

Diggs, an avid Vine user, shared this video of he and his wife singing "New York, New York" together last August.

"Serenade," he captioned the video.
