(UPI) -- Chris Brown has voluntarily entered an unspecified rehab facility in Malibu, just days after the 24-year-old performer was arrested in Washington, D.C. on felony assault charges.

The charges were reduced to a misdemeanor after Brown appeared in court on Monday. He was ordered to report to his California probation officer.

"Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility," his rep said in a statement Tuesday. "His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point."

Brown's latest legal woes stem from an altercation outside D.C.'s W hotel early Sunday morning, when the singer and his bodyguard allegedly punched a man in the face. He's still on probation for his 2009 beating of Rihanna.

TMZ reported Tuesday that Brown walked into the facility with his lawyer, his mom and his girlfriend Karrueche Tran. The gossip site speculated that Brown is seeking anger management treatment.
