(UPI) -- Fire fighters are pouring retardant foam on a blaze that broke out at a salvage company in Greensboro, North Carolina Friday morning.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire at D.H. Griffin, a contract demolition company, but said that it has been contained and no nearby businesses are in danger.

Efforts to fight the fire, which broke out just after 8 a.m., were complicated by the high concentration of plastics at the site, made from salvaged household items.

"There are a lot of wires and hoses," said Greensboro Fire Deputy Chief Clarence Hunter.

Firefighters warned residents to keep windows of their homes and cars closed as a plume of dark smoke spread above the site.
