(UPI) -- Greek officials, who are still trying to find the parents of a young blonde girl found living with a Roma couple last week, have received thousands of phone calls since photos of "Maria" were released to the public.
Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin, of Kansas City, Miss., have reportedly contacted Greek authorities through their local FBI office, in the hopes of finding their missing baby Lisa, who disappeared from her home two years ago.
“We are waiting to hear back from law enforcement,” their attorney told the Kansas City Star Tuesday.
“We enquire about every child that is found and fits the age profile of Lisa,” he also told The Daily Telegraph. “We investigate all leads. I don’t have any further comment at this stage.”
Panagiotis Pardalis, of the Smile of the Child charity currently caring for the girl, told CNN Tuesday that Greek authorities are investigating missing children's cases from the U.S., Canada, Poland and France.
Police charged Hristos Salis, 39, and Eleftheria Dimopoulou, 40, with abduction, though a lawyer for the couple claims that they illegally adopted the girl from her biological mother.
Lisa Irwin was 10-months-old when she disappeared from her cot in October 2011. Lisa would have turned three years old in November, while a dental exam has determined that the girl in Greece is likely five or six.
