Monopoly fans ditched the iconic game's iron token for the Internet's chosen mascot, a cat, after a month-long worldwide voting campaign back in February. The cat beat out other, seemingly more modern, options -- including a guitar, helicopter and robot.
As promised, Hasbro has started selling new versions of the classic board game featuring the democratically elected cat token, ending the iron's 78-year-long participation.
"We know that cat lovers around the world will be happy to welcome the new cat token into the Monopoly game," said Hasbro Gaming's Eric Nyman said at the time. "While we're a bit sad to see the iron go, the cat token is a fantastic choice by the fans and we have no doubt it will become just as iconic as the original tokens."
Gizmodo, who published a tongue-in-cheek "review" of the recently released cat token, is also calling for entries to its Monopoly cat token Photoshop contest.Monopoly now has a cat?! I kind of want to buy it just for that reason. #catlady pic.twitter.com/7rTnsyqDYo
