Nissan Motor Co. announced Wednesday that its 2015 Titan pickup truck will get a Cummins turbo diesel.

Cummins has been providing their engines for Chrysler's Ram pickups since 1989. According to Autoweek, the Cummins name is a key reason why customers chose to buy the truck.

Ram spokesman Nick Cappa, said customers associate the Cummins engine with the ability to tow and haul large loads.

"People buy heavy-duty trucks for their capability, and that's what we deliver," he said.

Chrysler officials would not comment on Nissan's deal with Cummins or whether it would hurt its trucks' competitive advantage.

The Ram uses a 6.7-liter inline-six, while Nissan's Cummins diesel is a 5.0-liter V8 based on a different design.

Regarding their new partnership with the engine brand, Nissan spokesman Dan Bedore said the company would benefit greatly.

"We will definitely leverage the Cummins brand name," he said.
