Automaker Hyundai issued recalls for three of its models in two separate actions Wednesday, covering Sonatas and Azeras over a problem with rust in cold-weather states and Santa Fe Sports over problems with the front axle.

Hyundai is recalling 215,000 Sonatas and 24,000 Azeras from 2006 and 2011 which may have problems with a rear cross rusting if exposed to winter road salt, which could cause handling problems.

The geographic recall is in effect for Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

The other recall affects 2013 Santa Fe Sport models over "a portion of the right, front axle shaft [that] may have been improperly manufactured," Hyundai said.

Additionally, 9,3000 Kia Sorento models, which have similar front-wheel-drive and 4-cylinder engines, are being recalled for the same issue as the Hyundai Santa Fes.

Hyundai spokesman Jim Trainor said the automaker was not aware of any accidents or injuries related to either recall.
