You'd think that a professional race car driver would know better than to drive drunk. But Bobby Dale Earnhardt, a member of racing's famous Earnhardt clan, was arrested in West Virginia on Monday night when he failed a field sobriety test.
Charleston police saw Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt's grandson and Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s nephew, taking a speedy wide-left turn before they pulled him over.
Authorities said that the 25-year-old racer only admitted to having two shots at a local bar, though he later blew a .193 at the police station.
"After talking with him, our officer noticed his eyes were glassy, speech thick and slurred, smelt of alcohol," Charleston police said in a statement.
Earnhardt apologized for his actions in a post to his Facebook page.
"I wanted to let you all know I made a terrible mistake last night drinking and driving," he said.
I am thankful nothing bad happened from my stupidity and I know It could have. I'm sorry for letting all my fans friends and family down and I hope I can make it up to each and everyone of you and in the future be a good role model. I will continue to move forward with my racing career and I hope I continue to have your support thanks
