Alec Baldwin to host prime time talk show on MSNBC

Rumor has it Alec Baldwin will be hosting a prime time political talk show on MSNBC, though the parties are still officially "in talks."

Baldwin will reportedly get the Friday 10 p.m. time slot. Currently, Lawrence O’Donnell holds the 10 p.m. slot Monday through Thursday, while the "Lockup" prison documentary series airs Fridays.

The famously liberal actor, 55, is a longtime member of the NBC family, with a seven-season run on "30 Rock" and numerous appearances on "Saturday Night Live."

While so far neither the network nor Baldwin have confirmed reports, some sources are saying the deal is done, while others say the left-leaning network is still in talks with the actor.

Baldwin's comedy fans may follow him to MSNBC and boost the network's declining ratings. He was considered as a possible host during recent late-night shakeups, and Baldwin has even stepped in to read segment teasers for O'Donnell.

If Baldwin takes up the Friday 10 p.m. hour, he will be competing against "Anderson Cooper 360" on CNN and either Sean Hannity or Greta Van Susteren on Fox.

The format for the as yet unnamed show is still not clear, though the politically outspoken actor may need to keep his temper away from headlines, lest he become the next Keith Olbermann.
