The Alex Rodriguez Biogenesis punishment is expected to come down Monday.

The announcement was expected to be made today around noon, but has been pushed back. Major League Baseball will announce that Alex Rodriguez is suspended through the end of the 2014 season. Hours later, Rodriguez will make his Yankees season debut.

Bud Selig, MLB commissioner, has loosened his iron-fist approach to Rodriguez amid increasing criticism that Selig is coming down harder on Rodriguez than any other player in the scandal.

Others have speculated that the threat of a lifetime ban was put out just to get Rodriguez to confess and push him to negotiate a deal.

Selig does have sweeping powers, but his ruling would likely be challenged in court. Now, speculators predict his suspension will fall under the Joint Drug Agreement.

Initially, his suspension would be immediate and would prevent him from playing any further this season. With this arrangement, Rodriguez will get to play while his appeal is heard, putting him in the starting lineup against the Cubs tonight.

His appeal would be heard within 20 days of the suspension's announcement. A ruling will be heard within the first 25 days of the first hearing.
