"Game of Thrones," the show that horrified fans with a particularly brutal wedding ceremony in June, won the Television Critics Association award for best achievement in drama on Saturday night.

The HBO, which won program of the year in 2012, was bested this time by "Breaking Bad," set to enter its sixth and final season on August 11.

Speaking to reporters at a TCA press event late last month, HBO brass said that "Game of Thrones" will continue "as long as there are stories to tell, contrary to earlier reports that the show would last only seven seasons.

"As far as I'm concerned it can go on as long as there are stories to tell," HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said. "I know there are concerns about catching up with the books."

"Our line to George was, 'You keep writing!'" CEO Richard Plepler added.
