Ripken abduction: Police still looking for man who kidnapped Cal Ripken's mother

Police are still searching for the man who abducted Vi Ripken, Cal Ripken Jr.'s mother, more than a year after he picked her up and gunpoint and then drove her around for 24 hours before returning her to her home.

The former baseball star, who had a 21-year-career with the Baltimore Orioles, has upped the reward money from $2,000 to $100,000 for information leading to Vi's kidnapper.

"In our minds, this is important, not only for us and our community, but for all communities," Cal Ripken Jr. told reporters on Thursday. "We would like to get closure on this case and give all of us some peace of mind."

Ripken said at the news conference that Vi's kidnapping still impacted her daily life.

"She's more cautious, she's more careful. Her decisions are not as easy," he said.

John Walsh, a friend of Ripken's who used to host "America's Most Wanted," appeared at the presser, telling reporters that he had encouraged Ripken to up the reward in the hopes that "criminal elements" might be inspired to talk to the police.
