Hundreds of volunteers spent all weekend searching for Eleanor Alexander, a 78-year-old from Coweta County, Ala., who had wandered from her home some time during the night on Friday.
On Monday, a search-and-rescue dog finally discovered Alexander, who suffers from dementia, lying injured in a wooded area not far from her home.

“She was not alert, but she was breathing and covered with bug bites,” Coweta County Sheriff’s Lt. Col James Yarbrough said. “She was in bed clothes and her body temperature was below 80 degrees (Fahrenheit), and she had walked into a barbed-wire fence.”
Alexander is recovering at Atlanta Medical Center.
