British actress Emilia Clarke, who plays Game of Thrones's Daenerys Targaryen, told Entertainment Weekly she cried when she found out she had been nominated for an Emmy Award.

"It took a couple of phone calls for me to actually hear from my publicist that I myself was also nominated," the 26-year-old said laughing. "And then I cried. It’s all quite too much to handle."

Clarke explained that she had "a sleepless night" praying for Dan Weiss and David Benioff, the show's writers, to be nominated.

Asked how she feels now, the star said she is indebted to HBO.

"For me, the nomination is literally the end of the line. It’s amazing. I’m so, so, so happy. I owe absolutely everything to HBO. I’m just happy that the show itself got recognized. It’s just wonderful," Clarke said.

Of playing Targaryen, who is Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Princess of Dragonstone, Breaker of Chains, Mhysa, and Mother of Dragons, the now-Emmy-nominated actress said she felt it shows "the power of what women can do."

"Hopefully by the end of the series, she’ll be stuck atop the Iron Throne. I’m still holding out for that," she said.

Clark, who is currently preparing to shoot Season 4 of GOT, said the upcoming scripts are even better than last season's.

"I just read season four and my jaw is to the fall. I’m like, How have you guys outdone yourselves even more? It’s quite a phenomenal scene coming up," she said.
