Gretchen Carlson confirmed Wednesday that she was leaving her job as a "Fox and Friends" co-host to anchor her own afternoon news program on Fox.

“After seven years I’m going to move forward in my career,” she said, “moving on to the afternoons here at Fox and hosting my own show coming up in September.”

Carlson's co-host Steve Doocy took the opportunity to congratulate his co-anchor, adding that she deserves it because “we know you work really hard and it shows each and every morning.”

Doocy also confirmed the news that Elisabeth Hasselbeck, from ABC's "The View," would be joining the cast of "Fox and Friends."

Carlson said the team looked forward to welcoming Hasselbeck, adding that Wednesday would be her last day with "The View."
