Golden Corral manager fired after revealing food stored near dumpster

A Florida Golden Corral manager was fired after posting a video on YouTube of meat he says was left out by the trash during a restaurant inspection.

"Apparently, what my company likes to do to get ready for inspections is put their food by the Dumpsters," said Brandon Huber, the Port Orange, Fla., Golden Corral employee who made the video, although it isn't clear if he posted the video online himself.

In the video (below), flies can be seen buzzing above uncooked hamburgers and ribs.

The chain denied the video's implications, saying Huber was just trying to make a quick buck and the food was already on its way to disposal. It was Huber's job to dispose of food, the restaurant said, and his father then tried to sell the video to the restaurant for $5,000:

In regard to the video that is currently being circulated by an employee of Golden Corral of an isolated incident of improper food handling at our Port Orange, Florida location please note: 1. The food in the video was never served to a single customer. 2. All of the food was thrown away immediately. 3. The employee in the video participated in disposing of the food. 4. The employee in the video - through his father - offered to sell the video. 5. The manager at the restaurant was terminated.

However, the practice of putting substandard food out by the trash during an inspection is fairly common at unscrupulous restaurants. That way, if the food is found, the manager can claim it was already on its way to the trash.
