Flight diverted over bird strike in N.Y.

A Jet Blue flight traveling from White Plains N.Y. to Fort Myers, Fla. was forced to divert Thursday after birds struck the plane shortly after take off.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the aircraft diverted to John F. Kennedy airport for inspection and landed safely at 8:25 AM,” JetBlue announced in a statement.

In recent years wildlife strikes have become an increasing danger for flight safety. According to the FAA, "over $600 million dollars annually is lost due to wildlife strikes with civil aircraft in the United States alone."
