Investor and philanthropist Warren Buffet joined Twitter Thursday, sending out his first tweet a little after noon E.T. His first message, "Warren is in the house," was retweeted nearly 20,000 times within just a couple of hours.

The Berkshire Hathaway chairman and CEO regularly makes lists of the world's wealthiest and most influential people. Once known as the Wizard of Omaha, Buffett has long been wary of technology, and was known not to carry a cell phone or use an office computer for years.

Buffett's entry into social media was immediately noticed, and fans of America's most famous investor piled as high as his money, as he gained 1,000 followers per minute for nearly an hour after joining the site. Buffet now has nearly 135,000 followers waiting for a followup tweet.
