Tamerlan Tsarnaev was living on the Massachusetts welfare system leading up to his involvement in the Boston Marathon bombing, according to the Boston Herald.
Massachusetts officials confirmed that Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his family were receiving welfare benefits prior to the bombing.
Tsarnaev, his wife Katherine Russell Tsarnaev and their three-year-old daughter had been receiving welfare before the benefits ended in 2012, when Tsarnaev's wife began work as a home health aide.
Both of Tsarnaev's parents received benefits, too -- and Tamerlan and his younger brother Dzhokhar received benefits through their parents.
The state did confirm that the Tsarnaevs were not receiving benefits on April 15, at the time of the Boston bombings. But authorities did not divulge exactly when the family began to receive assistance, the Herald reported.
