$100 bill redesigned

By GABRIELLE LEVY, UPI.com

The U.S. Federal Reserve announced Wednesday a newly redesigned $100 bill would hit circulation in October.

The bill features updates in security technology, including a 3-D security ribbon that will be easier to identify as authentic and harder to counterfeit.

The design itself was unveiled in 2010, but production problems delayed the release.

More than 800 million "Benjamins" are in circulation in the world, making it the most popular bank note, by value, of all major world currencies.
