Lady Gaga reportedly turned down $1M to perform at RNC

Surprising no one, Lady Gaga turned down $1 million to perform for Mitt Romney and other Republican leaders at the GOP convention last August, according to a report in the Washington Examiner.

Documents connected to a lawsuit filed by Republican fundraisers, the American Action Network, show that Lady Gaga, along with artists Dolly Parton and Pitbull, rejected invitations to perform at the Republican National Convention. Gaga was reportedly offered the most money.

"See what it would take to get Gaga instead of Dolly," AAN's Director of Development Pete Meachum wrote in an email to an event vendor the AAN ultimately sued. Meachum predicted that the outspoken gay rights advocate and Barack Obama supporter would be a hard get, so he asked the vendor to assure her that money from the event would go toward a domestic violence shelter. He also asked the vendor to say the event would "honor women who run for public office."

The RNC responded to the Examiner report last week in a statement titled "RNC was not Gaga for Gaga," asserting that the AAN's events were independent from the GOP's official convention.

"The story is actually referencing an event by American Action Network, an independent group that is no way affiliated or connected to the Republican National Committee or Republican Convention," the statement read.

“In planning for our fundraiser in Tampa, e-mails were exchanged between AAN fundraising staff and outside vendors exploring various performance options," the AAN's statement read. "We considered some acts and didn't seriously consider others, but we were ultimately happy with a great Kid Rock concert."
