In a surprise appearance at Sunday night's Academy Awards, Michelle Obama showed up to introduce the Best Picture nominees wearing a shiny Naeem Khan gown that flaunted her famously toned arms, but failed to meet the modesty restrictions of Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency.

In an image accompanying its write-up of the first lady's appearance, Fars photoshopped sleeves and a higher neckline onto the first lady's dress, Persian blogger Golnaz Esfandiari pointed out Monday.

According to The Guardian, Iranian media restrictions on women's dress differ for Iranian women and foreigners.

Rules dictate that Iranian women shown on Iran's state television should have a hijab that covers their hair, arms and legs. The length of the censor's ruler varies for foreigners. A foreign woman travelling inside the Islamic republic should comply with the same restriction on Iranian women, but those shown on TV, such as dignitaries or actors, are tolerated without the hijab, up to a point.

The article doesn't mention Obama's wardrobe, though it does call Best Picture winner, "Argo," an "anti-Iranian film."
