The New York Post reported Thursday that retired NFL star Dan Marino fathered a daughter after an extramarital affair with a CBS production assistant in 2005.

"This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then," Marino wrote to the Post. "We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved."

"My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years and have six children together," Marino added. "We continue to be a strong and loving family." He and his wife celebrated their 28th anniversary on Jan. 30.

Marino met 35-year-old production assistant Donna Savattere at CBS Sports' Manhattan office while he was married to his wife, Claire, with whom he had six children. Savatterre gave birth to a baby girl, Chloe, in 2005.

The former football star and analyst reportedly paid Savattere millions of dollars to take care of their daughter and move to Texas. She later married Nahill Younis.

“They would have impromptu meetings, which was part of the deal,” a source said of Marino, who kept in touch with his daughter, now seven years old.
