'Narcos: Mexico' Season 2 to star Diego Luna, Scoot McNairy

Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Netflix announced on Twitter Thursday that Diego Luna and Scoot McNairy will be returning for Narcos: Mexico Season 2.

The streaming service also stated that production on the new season is underway in Mexico City.

Narcos: Mexico, from showrunner and executive producer Eric Newman, is a revamp of Netflix's Narcos series that explores the origins of the modern drug war.

Luna starred in the first season as drug lord Felix Gallardo, the leader of the Guadalajara Cartel. McNairy served as narrator on the first season who later appeared as DEA agent Walt Breslin.

Netflix recently renewed Narcos: Mexico for a second season after the first season premiered in November.
