One Day at a Time confirmed the news on Twitter, writing, "Our familia keeps growing."

Entertainment Weekly reported Fumero and Beatriz will appear in the same episode as Gloria Estefan, who sings the show's opening theme. Fumero and Beatriz will both play cousins of Penelope (Justina Machado).

One Day at a Time originally had a nine-season run on CBS from 1975 to 1984. The Netflix reboot stars Machado, Dwayne Schneider, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz and Rita Moreno, and debuted in January 2017.

Fumero and Beatriz play Amy Santiago and Rosa Diaz on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which was picked up by NBC in May after being canceled at Fox after five seasons. Terry Crews, who portrays Terry Jeffords, called the move "dramatic" in a new interview.
