Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Paramount Network has released its first trailer for the upcoming dark comedy series Heathers.
Set to premiere on March 7, the show is a contemporary remake of the 1988 film starring Winona Ryder, Christian Slater and Shannen Doherty.
The new version features Grace Victoria Cox as high-school student Veronica Sawyer, James Scully as her murderous boyfriend JD, and Melanie Field as Heather Chandler, Brendan Scannell as Heather Duke and Jasmine Mathews as Heather McNamara -- Veronica's wicked frenemies.
Thursday's preview of the series introduces all of these characters and offers a glimpse of Doherty pointing a gun and talking to Selma Blair, an actress famous for another "teens behaving badly" classic -- Cruel Intentions. It is unclear what roles the women play in the Heathers remake.
In real life, Doherty recently completed treatment for breast cancer.
