Nicki Minaj announces retirement on Twitter

Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Hip hop superstar Nicki Minaj announced Thursday on Twitter that she is retiring from her music career.

Minaj, whose career has led to multiple MTV Video Music Awards wins and 10 Grammy nominations, tweeted Thursday that she is retiring to spend time with her family.

"I've decided to retire & have my family," the "Anaconda" singer wrote. "I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, X in the box- cuz ain't nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE."

Minaj recently performed for Planned Parenthood's "Bands Together, Bans Off" Campaign, which aimed to raise awareness about restrictive legislation on reproductive rights in states like Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama and more.

The performer recently canceled a scheduled appearance at a music festival in Saudi Arabia to protest the country's restrictive laws, including a ban on women driving without male escort.

Minaj's latest single, "MEGATRON," was released in June.
