May 3 (UPI) -- Rihanna says Drake's 2016 MTV Video Music Awards speech was "uncomfortable" to sit through.

The 30-year-old singer and actress discussed the 2016 VMAs and the status of her friendship with the 31-year-old rapper in the June issue of Vogue.

"The VMAs is such a fan-focused awards show, so having that energy around me, and knowing the people who had received the award in the past, made it feel like a big deal," Rihanna recalled of receiving the Video Vanguard Award.

Drake declared his love for Rihanna while presenting her with the award, calling her the "most beautiful, talented woman" he has ever seen.

"Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part," Rihanna said of the speech. "I don't like too many compliments; I don't like to be put on blast."

Rihanna and Drake split in 2016 after an on-again, off-again relationship. Rihanna told Vogue she hasn't stayed in touch with the "Nice for What" rapper.

"We don't have a friendship now, but we're not enemies either. It is what it is," she said.

Rihanna confirmed she's dating someone new, although she did not share her boyfriend's name. The singer has been linked to Saudi businessman Hassan Jameel since they were spotted together in Spain in June.
