Would-be burglars foiled by Florida store's impact-resistant glass

Feb. 8 (UPI) -- A Florida police department released security camera footage of two frustrated would-be burglars who found themselves foiled by a pane of impact-resistant glass.

Port St. Lucie police said in a Facebook post that officers investigating a reported burglary attempt at the Mobil Gas Station Feb. 7 discovered the two suspects had apparently left after being unable to break through the impact-resistant glass window next to the front door.

Surveillance footage from about 2:15 a.m. shows the two men approach the front of the store with their faces concealed. One of the men uses a hammer on the large window and succeeds in damaging the glass, but fails to break it. The suspect attempts several more hammer blows, followed by ramming the window with his body, but he is unable to break the barrier.

The second suspect also attempted to use a hammer on the glass, but was similarly unsuccessful.

The two men "fled the scene in shame" after about a minute of failed window-breaking attempts, police said.

The department said that when it comes to "impact resistant glass vs. burglars... resistant glass wins."
